Frequently Asked Questions

How do I arrange for service? I have never done this before.
Just call your local office and any of the service coordinators will assist you.

How do I know what level of care will be needed?
It will obviously depend on the type of care/help needed. If help with the activities of daily living is all that is needed, one of our caring qualified nursing assistants (NA) will do. If there are medication and/or treatments involved you would need one of our experienced LPNs or RNs. If you are not sure, call the local office and one of our trained service coordinators will be able to help you determine your need.

Other than providing personal care, what will Aides/Nurses do?
All will do light housekeeping, laundry, prepare meals, and run errands. They can also provide transportation to and from appointments. These services are provided for the patient and perhaps the spouse.

What about giving medications and other treatments?
Nursing Assistants are not permitted by law to dispense medications from the prescription bottle. The Nursing Assistant can monitor and make sure medications are taken as prescribed. However, if a family member pre-dispenses the medications, for example, into a 7-day dispenser, the aide can give the medication from that pill dispenser. RNs and LPNs can give medications from the prescription bottle. RNs and LPNs can also provide specialized treatments and give injections. (See Nurses Available Medical Services for a more detailed listing).

What are your screening procedures?
Everyone is personally interviewed and must provide three (3) work-related references, which are checked. Criminal background checks are performed and all certification/licenses are verified with the issuing authority. All Professional/Para-professionals must present their license/certification. Homemaker/Companions must have one (1) year of experience in the field of home care.

Do you require a deposit?
No deposit or advance payment is required.

Is there a minimum number of hours or days that have to be scheduled?
There is no minimum. You inform us as to what your needs, day, time and hour(s) needed and we work with that. Services can be provided for one (1) hour per week to 24 hours per day, 7 days a week on going.

How do I contact the office after hours?
Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During lunch, 12 p.m.-1 p.m., and after 4:30 p.m. if you call the local main office number the answering service will answer. If it is an emergency, they will contact the office person who is on-call and that person will respond quickly to assist you.

Do you send the same nurse?
We strive for consistency when at all possible.

Do you accept insurance plans?
Some commercial insurances cover care in the home and you should contact your insurance company to determine what they cover and under what circumstances. When you call us to arrange for services please have available the name and policy number, patient’s insurance company, the company’s phone number and name of the person handling the claim at the insurance company. We do not participate with the Medicare or Medicaid program.
